Washington “Toothpicks” from a Washington Forest
Similar in many ways but not the same as our entry #40300002. Two of these are available. One is an unused C.P. Johnston Co. linen card 48839 (534), aged (Grade: 3, $1) and the other is also unused but has an inked notation on the back (Grade: 4, $0.50).
-
“Toothpicks” from a Northwest Forest
We never quite know how to handle cases like this. There are a total of four cards with this identical caption. Three are unused C.T. Art-Colortone cards 2B-H355 (869), linen, each aged; two have sticker stains on the reverse (Grades: 3, $0.50) and one has no stain (Grade: 1, $1). The fourth card comes from Wesley Andrews 29989-N, is not linen, is not postally used, and has some writing on the back. The base photo is the same as those other cards, but the sky is different. And all this was in the days before computer manipulation. For this fourth card, Grade: 3 ($.50). Also note, these are not the same as cards with the same picture that are attributed to Washington, or Oregon, or Idaho, or all of those.
-
Giant Fir Log (Oregon, Washington, USA)
This photo has been used by at least four different postcard publishers (including Dexter Press 59052), and we know this because we have examples from all of them, ten cards in total. The colours vary slightly according to print run. Captions are the same except for one thing: some say “Oregon” only, while others say “Oregon and Washington.” One of our cards was mailed in 1958, with three-cent stamp and postmark (Grade: 1, $2) and all the others are unused Grades 1 or 2 ($1).

Please also read the notes for 40300028 and 40300029 as all three of these cards are the same photo from different years and different captions. Fun, but confusing. It is Pacific Novelty card No. 3742 (64532). Grade: 3

It is also Pacific Novelty card No. 3742 (64532). Grade: 3
-
Larch Forest (1912)
Please also read the notes for 40300027 and 40300028 as all three of these cards are the same photo from different years and different captions. Fun, but confusing. This one has a red caption “Oregon Larch Trees, average height 250 feet” in a white box at the top front, and believe it or not, we have two of them. One was mailed from Portland, Oregon in 1912 with stamp and full postmark. It is Portland Post Card Co. card R514 (Grade: 3, $3). The other, same card number, was mailed in 1911 with stamp and postmark also (Grade: 3, $3).
